Irish
Food Writers Guild Awards Lunch
(Content of article by Georgina Campbell)
"The
prestigious Irish Food Writers Guild Food Awards, recently presented at
a lunch at Dublin's L'Ecrivain restaurant and sponsored this year by
Guaranteed Irish, are now in their twelfth year and have rightly earned
a reputation as one of the most anticipated dates in the calendar for 'foodies'.
Winners of this year's Awards were: Crozier Dairy Products for
their Crozier Blue Sheep's Milk Cheese; Kinvara Smoked Salmon Ltd, for
their Organic Smoked Salmon; Arbutus Breads, for their range of artisan
breads; and Silver Hill Foods, for the consistent quality of their duck
products and their imaginative approach to the development of the whole
enterprise.
As Nuala Cullen, Chairwoman of the Irish Food Writers Guild, commented,
choosing winners is not easy, as all the short-listed products are
excellent: "The Guild is delighted to be able to highlight
the dedication and commitment of so many Irish food producers - the
Irish Food Industry is one to be proud of and continues to gain respect
in the worldwide market."
To mark the occasion, Derry Clarke, proprietor-chef of L'Ecrivain,
devised a menu for the lunch - and, although the dishes he created for
the award-winning products may look difficult to make, they can be
simplified to make at home.........."
"....Declan and Aoife Droney set up their own company in 1997, in
the seaside village of Kinvara, Co. Galway; two years later, they became
the first people to produce smoked salmon from fish organically farmed,
in the Atlantic waters off Clare Island. This dressy dish (referring
to the specially-devised recipe for Terrine of Kinvara Smoked Salmon)
got the Irish Food Writers Guild Awards lunch off to a classy
start. It can be adapted to make at home......"
