IOFGA is the largest organic association in Ireland. It operates an Organic inspection and
certification scheme. Approved applicants are licensed to use the IOFGA Symbol under contract,
which is renewed on an annual basis.
IOFGA is a voluntary organization and a company limited by guarantee. It is an organization for
people who want to adopt organic methods on the farm, in the garden or when processing food,
producing industrial products e.g. soil compost, and for consumers. It is a 32 county
organization covering the Republic of Ireland.
Key areas of work include:
To rigorously maintain a set of production and processing standards and a certification scheme for organic food
To provide a means of contact between members
To encourage education and research
To aid marketing and promotion of organic food in Ireland
Activities of the Organization include
To organize courses and conferences
Organize workshops and farm walks
Publish a bi-monthly magazine "Organic Matters"
Develop local group network throughout the country
Compilation of resource materials e.g. publications,
Advice and support to organic producers.
